OVCN Sports Complex

Picture
Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene is located in lower center of the blue area (Linda Vista Citrus Tracts No. 2).
This area, and the surrounding areas of  Oro Valley Estates, Campo Bello, Shadow Mountain Estates,
Shadow Mountain Estates East are designated historic and are the original center of the Town of Oro Valley.
When OVCN acquired the Tellez property to the north of their complex which Is integral to their expansion plans, they removed and leveled potentially historically qualified structures.

Equestrian Area

In this residential ranch style area there are three horse stables and horse training facilities.
They are all located within one half mile of the church property and include:

Lucky Charm Riding Center, Blue Banner Farm and Adamcin's Equestrian Center

Including private owners there are an estimated 150+ horses in the immediate area.
These owners are members of the following professional organizations:

American Quarter Horse Association
Pinto Horse Association of America
American Paint Horse Association
United States Dressage Federation
Sombrero Peak 4H Equestrian Club
Tucson Dressage Club

The facilites AND privately owned animals have a significant economic impact.  In addition to the obvious work needed to maintain such facilities, additionally, each commercial stable employs trainers, farriers and  large animal vets.  Adamcin’s for example, has several full time employees just for upkeep of the property,  There are also large amounts of feed and tack (reins, bridles, saddles, halters, harnesses) required. Associated horse equipment such as trailers are used constantly. We are unaware of anywhere in the Tucson basin that has three such facilities in close proximity.
Noise, such as amplified sound, crowds, etc., stress horses and lead to behavioral and even physical issues.  If an animal is agitated, it can be dangerous for a rider, especially one in training.  Increased traffic will only cut down on riding outside the facilities, which would be the equivalent of people only walking on their own property versus walking the neighborhood.
Adding a large sports complex with associated activity on a daily basis would be devastating to the equestrian community.
